CAPT in Silence
CAPT in Silence connects with the Hard-of-Hearing and Deaf community through shared experiences, empathy, and curiosity and learns to listen beyond words. Through every engagement, we learn to communicate with openness and respect, discovering the many ways people connect beyond sound.

Directors' Message
To us, CE means more than just Community Engagement. It is an opportunity for mutual learning and growth. We see CE as a platform to connect meaningfully with others, to listen, and to learn. Through our interactions with the d/Deaf community, we hope to deepen our understanding of Deaf culture, communication, and lived experiences, while also reflecting on how we can become more inclusive and empathetic individuals.
Through our time in ACE, we hope to further develop our leadership skills and learn how to effectively apply our individual leadership styles within the EXCO team. Beyond that, we aspire to create meaningful and lasting memories with our engagers and community partners from Beatty Secondary School and SADeaf. By engaging closely with the community, we also hope to gain deeper insights into the challenges faced by our CPs and explore how we can better support and empower them through understanding, empathy, and collaboration.

Pre-engagements
For our pre-engagement, we had bonding games, admin talks to orient engagers into CIS and a short introduction to Singapore Sign Language. We also had a guest speaker Mr Lim Chin Heng, a pioneer in the field of education for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community in Singapore, to share his experiences to expose engagers to the d/Deaf culture in Singapore.
Engagement & Impact
CAPT in Silence creates spaces where communication goes beyond words. Partnering with the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing community, we design hands-on sessions that foster empathy, creativity, and mutual understanding.
For Beatty Secondary School, we engage with the students through fun activities related to their school values. For SADeaf, we connect with the d/Deaf community through activities like baking and canvas painting while also imparting useful information to them such as financial literacy.
Through these engagements, CAPTains grow as empathetic communicators and reflective learners who value connection over perfection. We worked closely with our partners to ensure that each session is meaningful, inclusive, and shaped by the community itself. Together, we learn that even in silence, there is understanding, growth, and friendship.
