Through meaningful activities and deep conversations with Singapore’s migrant community, CAPTains get to learn and spread awareness of the importance of this community to their friends and family.

Directors' Message
One of our biggest takeaways from this ACE project is the realisation that meaningful impact often comes from simple, consistent acts of care rather than grand gestures. Working with the migrant brothers (MBs) taught us to listen before acting, that is to understand what people truly need rather than assuming what’s best for them. Our favourite memory would be the conversations we had with the MBs who shared their life stories; those moments made us appreciate how community engagement is as much about empathy as it is about action.
To us, Community Engagement means connecting with others on a human level, i.e. understanding their struggles, strengths, and aspirations. It’s about learning with the community, not just for them, and recognising that everyone has something valuable to contribute. CE is both a form of service and self-growth; it challenges us to step outside our comfort zones and see the world through different perspectives.
We’re most looking forward to working alongside passionate peers who share the same drive to make a difference. We hope to learn from their experiences and collaborate on meaningful initiatives that create lasting value. We’re also excited to deepen our understanding of social issues in Singapore and explore creative, sustainable ways to address them.
Through ACE, we hope to become more empathetic and reflective people, people who not only understand societal issues but also act on them thoughtfully. We want to build genuine relationships with the community, develop a long-term mindset towards service, and hopefully inspire others to see engagement as a shared responsibility rather than a one-time project.

Pre-engagements
CAPTains take part in a range of interactive and experiential sessions such as sports days, cultural exchanges and trails. These activities allow CAPTains to build rapport with one another, learn about the community’s background and culture, and understand the social context of the engagement site. There are also briefings and discussions on the project’s aims and the values of ethical engagement, helping participants develop a shared sense of purpose and understanding before entering the community.
These pre-engagement experiences prepare CAPTains by helping them cultivate empathy, teamwork, and cultural sensitivity. They learn to connect across differences and appreciate the diversity of perspectives within the community. The exposure and reflection during these sessions ensure that CAPTains enter their engagement with greater awareness, humility, and readiness to build genuine, two-way relationships with the people they will be working with.
Engagement & Impact
During engagement, CAPTains participate in hands-on activities designed to connect with and support the community meaningfully. These activities vary depending on the project but often include interactive sessions such as conducting workshops or facilitating cultural exchanges that promote mutual understanding.
Through these activities, the community benefits not just from the events themselves, but also from the sense of belonging, joy, and connection they foster. The engagement helps bridge social gaps and builds trust between CAPTains and the community, creating a platform for dialogue, empathy, and shared experiences.
