Directors' Message
We engage with the homeless community, one that is often overlooked or misunderstood in Singapore. Through ACE Homes, many of us have come to realise the complexities of homelessness in Singapore and how large a role relationships play. “A person becomes homeless not because they run out of money but because they run out of relationships.”
Therefore, ACE Homes is ultimately about building connections and relationships – among the communities we engage with, and between CAPTains and our homeless friends. We hope that engagers will gain mutual understanding and respect towards our homeless friends, and share these experiences to help break down stereotypes in Singapore. We look forward to being able to see what is happening on the ground, to personally hear their stories and to make new friendships with them. We also hope to continue the work of previous iterations of ACE Homes in strengthening the community in the group of rental flats we work with, to better form a sense of belonging for residents.

Pre-engagements
In our pre-engagements, we hope to give engagers a greater understanding of homelessness in Singapore and equip them with skills to engage. This year, we invited 2 guest speakers with much experience working with both Good News Community Services (GNCS) and Homeless Hearts of Singapore (HHOS), and they gave us many insights! We also conducted training on managing potential situations to prepare CAPTains for engagement.
Engagement & Impact
ACE Homes works with 2 community partners. With Homeless Hearts of Singapore (HHOS), we participate in outreach sessions to rough sleepers in public spaces. CAPTains will distribute items and engage in conversations to form connections with homeless friends. These conversations build greater mutual understanding.
With Good News Community Services (GNCS) which runs the Joint Singles Scheme – Operator Run Model, CAPTains run activities for and with the residents to help build a stronger community and connections, primarily within the GNCS residents but also between residents and CAPTains. This year, CAPTains have come up with new and exciting activities for the residents, such as a candlelight dinner and a gallery walk, where residents will decorate their corridor with their own handmade crafts. We hope that these specially curated activities will brighten the atmosphere and make it a place where they feel a sense of belonging. This objective aims to fulfil our mission of building sustainable communities, in that even when we are no longer volunteering, residents can start their own activities and foster greater connections with their neighbours.
