Directors' Message

CE Fest is CAPT’s annual flagship community engagement event. It is where we worked with over 18 different community partners, allowing over 250 CAPTains an immersive experience that expanded their worldview. Through CE Fest, we hope for our committee and participants to grasp the mutually beneficial nature of community engagement through the 13 trails we offered. It is also seen in our theme this iteration, which is “Empowering Communities; Enriching Perspectives”.

Past CE Trails

Trail 1: Breaking Barriers: Challenging Disability Perceptions in the Workplace
The trail explores challenging perceptions of disability in the workplace and society. It provides a glimpse into their world, encouraging us to see beyond labels and stereotypes.
Trail 2: Life Beyond Bars
How do ex-offenders cope and adjust to their life after incarceration? What exactly are the resources available for them to reintegrate into society? What motivates them to turn over a new leaf? In this trail, we will be learning about the struggles of ex-offenders from Yellow Ribbon and engaging with ex-offenders from a halfway house through various activities
Trail 3: Roots to Sustainability
Curious to learn about the ongoing sustainability efforts in Singapore? Join Aloysius, Charlotte, and Jay on the trail to see how we as students can contribute in our own ways!
Trail 4: Life Anew: Addiction Recovery
“Say No to Drugs” is a phrase we are all familiar with, particularly in a country with a zero tolerance stance on drug use. However, drugs are just one of the many addictions that individuals may struggle with. Is there hope for those battling addiction? How can we support those recovering from the various forms of addictions (gambling, alcohol, pornography, etc)?
Trail 5: Origins of Our Island's Produce
Learn about the challenges faced in Singapore’s local food production industry, and how our local producers cope in the face of competition abroad and during an economic crisis.
Trail 6: Rough Sleepers, The Rocky Road
A nationwide homeless street count from 2019 showed that there were approximately 1,000 homeless individuals in Singapore, many of whom remain unknown to the government and social service agencies (The Lighthouse, n.d.). Curious to see how homelessness looks like in a first-world country? What can be done about the complex issue of homelessness?
Trail 7: Faiths in Peace
We live in a multi-racial and multi-religious society. But how much do we know about races and religions other than our own? This trail seeks to widen our horizons about the different religions in Singapore, their values and practices.
Trail 8: Through a Different Mind: Intellectual Disabilities
Singapore is home to many Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (PWIDs), yet their voices are often overlooked, and their experiences misunderstood. Before the trail, we will learn about intellectual disabilities, explore the challenges PWIDs face, and discuss the role of family, caregivers, and the wider community. Through case studies and discussions, you’ll be equipped with the awareness and sensitivity needed to engage meaningfully during the trail.
Trail 9: Celebrating the Last Goodbye
Ever wondered how death is portrayed in the media, and why we are always so hush-hush despite it being an inevitability? Well, this trail allows for the reimagination of the death care industry and advocates for the normalisation of such “taboo” conversations. The trail will enable participants to delve into the often taboo topic of death with workers in the industry and to reframe the topic of death and highlighting the need for conversations surrounding it.
Trail 10: The Colourful World of LGBTQ+
Learn more about common terminology regarding gender and sexuality and the lived realities and challenges faced by transgender and LGBTQ+ individuals. Gain insights regarding how we can better support the LGBTQ+ Community in Singapore!
Trail 11: Our Home, Our Stories
Unbeknownst to some of us, there are many rental flats in Singapore interspersed in different neighbourhoods. In this CE trail, we will engage the rental flat community and better understand their experiences. In turn, participants will gain a better understanding of the lived realities of rental flat residents and reflect on their own role in building a more equitable, supportive society.
Trail 12: Healing Herbs
Visit community gardeners from Toh Yi Garden to learn more about their daily processes, joys, and challenges of maintaining a community garden. Through this trail, participants will learn how to identify, appreciate local herbs, and gain a deeper understanding of our local community gardening efforts while exploring how such green initiatives strengthen our local communities.
Trail 13: Golden Bridges
Singapore is ageing — fast. And with it comes a silent crisis: more seniors are living in social isolation. Through this trail, we hope to shine a light on the real, raw experiences of the elderly who are often unseen and unheard. Expect real stories, heartfelt moments, and meaningful conversations that will challenge the way you see aging in our society.
